If you take a look at the hardware section, you will discover that I have encountered numerous scanners and the Canon imageFORMULA DR-2020U is one of them that I had the challenge of taking on.

Reported Issues
– ADF is Not Working
– Error Message when scanning
– Flatbed is not working
– Hardware not Detected

ADF is Not Working
When the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is not working, it is usually due to someone forgetting to remove a paperclip, staple, or some type of adhesive (Scotch Tape, Post-it Note, etc.) from the documents that are being scanned and it goes in and causes a jam. As long as the motor isn’t blown, removing the culprit and have it powered off for a few minutes will have it reset and operational as below.

Flatbed is Not Working
When the flatbed is not working, it is often a user locking the scanning head into place with the hidden switch. This protects the scanning head from damage when it is being shipped to you or when you take it on the go. Unlocking often does the trick providing the motor has not burned out when it tries to move and can’t because it is locked.

Hardware not Detected
When the hardware is not recognized or detected, it could be one or a combination of issues that is causing your problem. Often, saving your data and restarting the system will fix the issue. If that is not successful, you will then have to look into replacing the data cable or the port it is located in. For best results, plug into the rear so that it is directly into the motherboard and not the front which is patched into the motherboard with wires and pins which can get damaged easily but not easily seen with the naked eyes.

Error Message when scanning
In every situation that I have seen, an error message while trying to scan was caused by the lack or the installation of incorrect drivers. If you were depending on PnP (plug and play) to install the scanner, you should know that support may not be available for the Operating System that your are utilizing. Any installers found should be executed in compatibility mode and using an administrator account to make sure that it is successful and must be done while the data cable is disconnected.
